"SAT-16"
"
Out of the Box" 16-bit Web-Enabled Data Acquisition
Livingston,
UK 26th November : Scottish Data Acquisition System maker,
Scalar Acquisition Technology, announced
its second family of Advanced Data Acquisition Systems.
Scalar Acquisition Technology has developed the SAT-16 web
enabled data acquisition system. Capable of performing high
resolution data capture over hundreds, even thousands of
channels simultaneously, the SAT-16 system is a high performance,
platform independent, multi-channel simultaneous data acquisition
system. It has similar features to the earlier SAT-14 family,
including remote control via any web browser, over an Ethernet
connection, and can export data in MATLAB and other standard
file formats.
Applications are in Earth Sciences, Aerospace and Defence,
Automotive Testing, Modelling and Simulation, Production
Monitoring and Vibration Analysis. As most prospective users
in these markets are not themselves data acquisition experts,
the design brief was to produce a high performance product,
at reasonable cost, which is easy to set up and use, and
can be controlled from any commonly available computer platform,
whether workstation or PC.
Commenting
at the product launch, Sales Director Steve Tomlinson stated:" This
product has a similar system architecture to our earlier
SAT-14 family, but offers 16-bit resolution.
Again, we are addressing a substantial market for high performance
data acquisition systems, where customers simply want to
be able to purchase at reasonable cost, take the system out
of the box, switch it on and start using it. Rather than
the DIY approach, our modular architecture allows us to build
a custom, affordable system and ship a turnkey solution.
In addition, our unique software allows the system to run
virtually stand-alone, and it can be controlled from any
computer with sufficient performance to handle the data by
using a standard web-browser over an Ethernet connection."
A SAT-16
system is built up of one or more System Elements. Normally
supplied in a 4U 19" rack-mounted enclosure,
each System Element contains a processor and power supply,
and a number of powerful data acquisition cards. System Elements
can be "stacked" and operated simultaneously to
build up a large multi-channel system with simultaneous operation
of several hundred channels.
Maximum sample rate is 250kSPS on each input channel, and
the system can comfortably handle all channels operating
simultaneously at this rate. There are also some simultaneous
output channels available, which operate at up to 1MSPS.
The system design is modular and flexible, and is built according
to the user's specification for sampling rate and number
of channels. A single System Element can contain between
32 and 128 simultaneous input channels, and between 2 and
8 simultaneous output channels if required.
Further additions, with higher speed, resolution and advanced
features will be announced soon.
