System Overview
The
SAT14 is a networked real-time data acquisition system
that is
built to your specification. A flexible and modular
system architecture allows us to build your system from standard
components, sub-systems and software, and offer outstanding
performance for money. Our standard 4U 19” rack-mounted
System Element can house up to 64 channels sampling at up
to 1.8MSPS, and with a minimum record length of 4.4 seconds.
Alternatively it can be equipped to run at up to 10MSPS if
the correct ADCs are fitted, but with fewer channels. 512Mbyte
RAM is available for real-time data storage and stores between
4 and 6 seconds of data per channel depending on the working
sample rate.
Multiple System Elements can be connected together to increase
channel count, and these can be interconnected such that
they share clock and trigger synchronization inputs, allowing
full synchronization of all channels.
Internally the system is based upon the industry standard
PCI Bus specification and conforms to PCI standard 2.1. Each
rack has an embedded controller running under an internal
operating system with a 100Mbps Ethernet connection to an
external network for control and export of data. It is controlled
remotely through an open standard TCP/IP network using an
industry-standard web browser such as Netscape Navigator
or Microsoft Windows Explorer.
In effect the SAT-14 is platform independent. It also allows
industry standard operating systems such as Windows 98/NT/2000
to be used in high performance applications that were previously
the province of dedicated, real-time operating systems. It
will work with any platform capable of handling the data
produced, and typically works well with high performance
PCs, MACS, SUNs or other workstations.
The system is highly configurable and offers the advanced
features of an intelligent data acquisition system, including
flexible triggering, programmable clocking and a host of
data management functions. If required it is possible to
build a single synchronized system from System Elements operating
at different sample rates.
